History
Campaign 1
The Ox-Queen brought Greene, Juliette and Elyon together in Ginger Town to put out the fire curse on Fire Mountain, and paid them with the Four Star Orb. Oolong joined from a pirate prison and Terra deserted to them in Beerlia. Sophie joined after the tournament in North City, where Elyon won and Greene took second.
The Cacklers made their name in North City. Jebidiah, Greene’s ally, opened a restaurant called the Cackler Barrel, paid them residuals, and gave them a refitted storeroom beneath it as a war room. After they killed the Collector and a dragon during the Rose Ribbon invasion, they were mobbed like pop stars, and the reporter Jimmy Firecracker credited the city’s rescue to “none other than the Cacklers.” Rose Ribbon soldiers knew them as “the infamous Cacklers.” When the party entered a pub trivia night, they went by “The Snap Cracklers Pop.”
Their record is mixed. They freed hundreds of enslaved kenku and raised North City’s defense, and they also killed a shopkeeper, a magician and an owl along the way. Elyon asked whether killing innocents “just make[s] us the Rose Ribbon Army?” The party agreed they never have good ideas and their plans never go as intended.
The war ended at Muscle Tower, where Terra killed Isidar the Conqueror and Juliette asked Shenlong to “Revive all of those that were killed by the Rose Ribbon Army.” Afterward Oolong flew off, Juliette went home to her family, Terra and Sophie set out to turn the Collector’s mansion into a school, Greene took the helm of the Rootbeer Float, and Elyon flew away on her Nimbus.
The Cackler rules
The party set down its rules during an argument on the airship. The known ones:
- Rule 1: “Fuck the army.”
- Rule 4: No oatmeal on the boat.
- Rule 5: Whatever happens in Fight Club stays in Fight Club.
- Rule 6: “All Tuesdays are taco Tuesdays.” (Specifically not “stop killing random people.“)
- Rule 7: As a magician, if you ever encounter a magician stronger than you, you must give him your hearts.
- Rule 9: “Voes before hoes.”
Campaign 1.5
About twenty years after Campaign 1, the Cacklers were rich: Bulma had set them up with retirement accounts full of stock options, and the Cackler Barrel was a worldwide phenomenon. Terra and Sophie ran the Cacklers Academy for Gifted Students (CAGS), and Belle Pepper and Ruby fought alongside the veterans. They killed Dr. Gero and Android 19 in North City, then hunted the creature that had emptied Ginger Town, arriving in the Tabasco Forest too late to stop it absorbing 17. Perfect Cell told them he was “you, perfected,” made from all of their DNA (C1.5 Chapter 01, C1.5 Chapter 02).
At The Cell Games the Cacklers fought Cell with Master Toshi at their side. Toshi was killed, Ruby was taken by The Trickster in exchange for a healing wish, and Cell was finally destroyed by Terra and Elyon. When it was over, Belle Pepper popped off the battlefield; she and Ruby had been summoned by their gods to serve as representatives in The War in the Heavens. Oolong also popped off the battlefield, and has not returned. Terra, Sophie, Greene and Elyon were left standing. The Cacklers then summoned the dragon with the Star Orbs and wished to restore the lives of everyone Cell had killed and absorbed, which brought back Toshi, 17 and 18, and the absorbed towns (C1.5 Chapter 03).
Campaign 2
The Cacklers’ fame carries into Campaign 2. In the Saline Coast, Kip showed Ellery a picture on the wall of a Cackler Barrel restaurant: a small figure with spiky black hair and a monkey tail, which he guessed might be Kakarot (Session 05). When Wilbur needed a huge diamond, the FAM suspected the “bird” buying up diamonds was a Cackler (Session 30). In North City, the FAM stayed at Ye Olde Inn, a historic building once associated with the Cacklers (Session 60).
The veteran Cacklers now operate from CAGS, which has a war room and, in Sophie’s quarters, a private collection. Escher was caught trying to steal from it; Terra and Sophie interrogated him and Ruby compelled the truth from him (Session 63). The Cacklers told the FAM that five of the seven Star Orbs had been stolen around the world (Session 64). That same week, Marrow Vane began attacking them in print and on the radio, singling out Terra’s violence and blaming the Cacklers for the destruction of the Ozaroo rampage.
When The Whisper turned four Saiyans into giant apes, the Cacklers and the FAM fought them across the warehouse district while Sophie, Reese and Belle Pepper killed the Whisper inside the Academy (Session 65, Session 66). The Whisper’s astral lockbox held six of the seven Star Orbs (Session 67), and Greene organized a mission to Namek for a new guardian (Session 68). Terra, Sophie, Greene and Elyon were the four left standing when Perfect Cell was defeated at The Cell Games (Session 70).
The Velvet Truffle Company treats the Cacklers as off limits. A memorandum from the Grand Confectioner repeats Mistress’s directive that no Dominion operation may engage the Cacklers, their households, their academy, or their affiliates (Session 71). Cadbury Vex brushed that aside when going after Nelda, arguing she was only a classmate of the Cacklers.
