Quick facts

Type: Set of seven magical orbs · Creator: Kami · Summons: Shenlong, the eternal wish dragon · Status: Used after the Cell Games to wish back everyone Cell killed and absorbed (C1.5 Chapter 03); they last as long as Kami lives

The Star Orbs are seven ancient magical orbs created by Kami, the guardian of Arlia. Whoever gathers all seven can summon Shenlong, an eternal dragon who grants a wish.

The legend

The Ox-Queen told the Cacklers the legend after they found the Four Star Orb in the ruins of her castle (C1 Chapter 01). Kami filled in the rest for Greene at Kami’s Lookout (C1 Chapter 05):

  • Shenlong will grant any one wish within his power, as the wisher intends.
  • In the past he has granted wishes of wealth, eternal youth, immortality, and resurrection.
  • He can only resurrect people who died of unnatural causes within the last five years, and can resurrect several people at once only if they died a common death.
  • If Kami dies, the Star Orbs go with him.

In Campaign 1

Fortuneteller Yaba told the party where the seven orbs were: with the party, on the southern tip of Rice Town, in the Toasty Desert, in a cave off the Ranchinian Peninsula, in The Collector’s collection, in a warehouse in Beerlia, and at Rose Ribbon Army headquarters (C1 Chapter 02).

The party took the Toasty Temple orb (C1 Chapter 02), the orb in Giras’s warehouse on Mount Paozo (C1 Chapter 03), and the orb at Buttermilk, which Oolong snatched from Grand Admiral Blue’s hand (C1 Chapter 05). In West City, Greene gave one to King Piccolo, who swallowed it whole (C1 Chapter 07). When Greene later blew a hole through Piccolo, a purple and black orb shot out and turned to stone, showing that Piccolo, and therefore Kami, had died. Piccolo was brought back and sealed, and Kami and the orbs returned with him (C1 Chapter 11).

The Dragon Radar tracked the last two orbs (C1 Chapter 11). The party recovered the Rice Town orb at Grimscale Tower (C1 Chapter 12) and the last at Muscle Tower, where Commander Red, revealed as Isidar the Conqueror, planned to wish for eternal life and to “trespass into the domain of the gods.” With all seven, the Cacklers summoned Shenlong and Juliette wished: “Revive all of those that were killed by the Rose Ribbon Army” (C1 Chapter 14).

In Campaign 1.5

After Perfect Cell was destroyed at The Cell Games, the Cacklers summoned the dragon and wished to restore the lives of everyone Cell had killed and absorbed. Master Toshi, 17 and 18, and the people of Ginger Town and the other absorbed towns came back (C1.5 Chapter 03).

In Campaign 2

Escher, acting for The Whisper, tried to steal a “gleaming orb” from the Cacklers’ private collection (Session 63). The Cacklers then told The FAM that five of the seven Star Orbs had been stolen around the world, and worried about the timing so close to The Cell Games (Session 64). The thief was the Whisper, who gathered every orb except the one Bulma had.

After the Whisper’s death, Greene received a warning from Kami that a new guardian from Namek would be needed to maintain the orbs’ power (Session 66). The Whisper’s astral lockbox held the six orbs he had gathered (Session 67). With all seven in reach, the party discussed using them for a “redo” if the Cell Games went badly, and Prince Vegeta agreed to go to Namek as an emissary to find a new guardian (Session 68).

The only open question about the orbs is the oldest rule of the legend: if Kami dies, the Star Orbs go with him. See Open Mysteries.
