Kami is the guardian of Arlia and the creator of the Star Orbs. His soul is tied to that of King Piccolo.
Origin
Kami told Greene his story at Kami’s Lookout. He was once a nameless being from another realm who tried to do good but sometimes made mistakes. As he grew older and wiser he wanted to become Guardian of Arlia, but was told he had too much darkness in his heart. So he split himself into two beings, one purely good and one purely evil. The good half became Kami. The evil half became Piccolo. Their souls are tethered: if one dies, the other dies too (C1 Chapter 05).
In Campaign 1
Greene went looking for information on Kami, and trained with him and Mr. Popo in the Room of Spirit and Time. Kami confirmed that Turtle Island was gone and said he could not locate the vase holding Piccolo. He and Master Korrin then sent Greene and Elyon magically back to their ship (C1 Chapter 05).
When Greene burned a hole through Piccolo in West City, the orb that fell out of him turned to stone, showing that Kami had died with Piccolo. When the Cacklers brought Piccolo back and sealed him in the jar, Kami was revived with him, and the Star Orbs survived (C1 Chapter 11). At Grimscale Tower, Greene called out to Kami when he brought Juliette back to life (C1 Chapter 12).
In Campaign 2
After The Whisper died, Greene received a divine warning from Kami that a new guardian from Namek would be needed to maintain the power of the Star Orbs (Session 66). Prince Vegeta agreed to travel to Namek as an emissary (Session 68).
