Character art from Dragon Ball (Akira Toriyama / Toei Animation).

Demon King Piccolo is the purely evil half of the being who became Kami. Freed from his prison during Campaign 1, he took over West City and killed Oolong and Master Toshi before Greene sealed him away again.

Overview

Kami was once a nameless being from another realm who wanted to become Guardian of Arlia but was told he had too much darkness in his heart. He split himself in two. The good half became Kami and the evil half became Piccolo. Their souls are tethered: if one dies, so does the other. Because Kami created the Star Orbs, the orbs are bound to him too.

Long ago, Toshi’s master, Master Mutatio, sealed Piccolo in a magical container using the Mafuba, a technique that likely kills its user. Piccolo calls his minions his children.

History

Release

The vase holding Piccolo sat on Turtle Island until Meo and Juliette stole a magically sealed vase from the island on one of Meo’s jobs. Kami later confirmed Turtle Island was gone and the vase lost, and The Collector wanted it back. When Oolong scried on Meo, the party saw Emperor Pilaf holding the jar and unsealing it.

West City

The Cacklers arrived to find West City in ruins and Piccolo’s children attacking their ship. After they fought their way out of Pilaf’s castle, Piccolo himself blocked their escape and offered to let them go for the Star Orb he sensed on them. Greene handed one over and Piccolo swallowed it. He then asked how many of his children they had killed. Greene said one, so Piccolo demanded a life in return. Sophie, Juliette and Oolong stepped forward, and Piccolo chose with “eeny meenie miney moe,” landing on Sophie. When Oolong healed her and sent his owl at him, Piccolo laughed, “Always go after the healer first,” and killed Oolong. Greene revived him after Piccolo withdrew.

At Pilaf’s speech to the captured citizens, Piccolo grew tired of the emperor, lifted him by the arm, said “Ridding the world of your foolishness,” and bit down on his skull. “Well that was fun, it’s time to feast boys!” His children fell on the crowd, and Bulma Briefs teleported the party out.

The final fight

The Cacklers returned with Sophie, Goku and Toshi and found Piccolo waiting at his West City mansion, promising to pluck the Star Orbs off their corpses. He laughed off their martial arts, stunned Oolong, and landed a brutal blow on Terra. Toshi tried the Mafuba, but the jar toppled before the seal closed, and Piccolo killed him: “Well, if you ask me, Mafuba is a very poor choice of last words.” He then killed Sophie and kicked her as Oolong tried to revive her, shouting “What’s so special about this fucking dwarf?”

Piccolo grew into a three-story final form. Greene set the jar down, and Piccolo looked at it and asked, “Is that a jar?” Another Mafuba failed but shrank him back to normal size. Greene fired a kamehameha through Piccolo’s stomach, and the swallowed Star Orb shot out and turned to stone, a sign that Piccolo and Kami had both died. Muffin the owl then dropped its business into Piccolo’s mouth. When Piccolo’s soul tried to flee, Juliette dragged it back (“What? How dare you?”), and Greene guided the Mafuba’s green and yellow energy into the jar and sealed it with Toshi’s talisman.

The Cacklers revived Kami at once, alongside reviving and re-sealing Piccolo, so the Star Orbs survived.
