Quick facts
Race: Dwarf · Party: The Cacklers · Formerly: “Emerald” of the Collector’s Gems · Spouse: Terra Misu Umber · Status: Alive (as of C2 Session 83)

Sophie Ghiradelli is a red-haired dwarven singer and spellcaster who performed for the Collector as the Gem “Emerald” before joining The Cacklers. She is the ex-girlfriend, later fiancée and finally wife of Terra Misu Umber, and in Campaign 2 one of the veteran Cacklers at the Academy.
Overview
Sophie has bright emerald-green eyes, sings in Dwarvish, and wrote an internationally renowned pop song about her breakup with Terra. She bit a Gem in half as a Tyrannosaurus, survived King Piccolo killing her, and came out of the war with real trauma; she told Terra afterward, “I can’t keep doing this.” She is also the one who talked Terra into building something instead of destroying things.
History
Campaign 1
Emerald. Sophie was one of the Gems who performed at the opening ceremony of the Greatest Below the Heavens tournament, all of them bound to the Collector by contract as indentured servants. When Terra begged the Collector to free her, he agreed only if Terra took her place, and Sophie’s bracers moved to Terra’s wrists.
West City. Sophie traveled with the party and Obsidian to West City. When King Piccolo demanded a life for the child of his the Cacklers had killed, Sophie, Juliette and Oolong all stepped forward. Piccolo picked Sophie by “Eeny Meenie Miney Moe” and knocked her out. At the Parmesan Diego state hall, she and Greene publicly condemned the Rose Ribbon Army.
Back to the barracks. The Collector was furious with Emerald and Obsidian for “gallivanting in Parmesan Diego.” He listed her failures, stripped her of her new freedom and sent them both back to their barracks. Sophie pleaded for Obsidian to be spared. The Cacklers came to get her and Tala back.
The T-Rex. When the Gems Sapphire and Ruby ambushed the Cacklers near the stadium, Sophie offered herself up to save her friends. As the bracers were about to snap on, she turned into a Tyrannosaurus, bit the Gem Ruby’s upper half off, and tail-whipped the last enemy into a tree. Still a T-Rex, she rampaged through North City and yelled at the fallen Greene, “You better fucking get on. Get right or get left, boy.” She then raised a ritual hut for the party to hide in.
Wanted, then “dead.” The North City Times ran her picture with a 50,000 gold bounty from the Collector, accusing her of destruction of property, kidnapping Obsidian, and murdering Ruby and Sapphire. Sophie vowed to get the “stupid ass bracers” off so Terra didn’t have to do this “bullshit for him anymore.” After the Cacklers’ fake story ran, the paper reported Emerald dead, with the last words “You’ll never get away with being a slaver.” When the Collector threatened the party, Sophie answered, “I’m just going to say fuck you. You pompous little kitty tiger.”
The Collector’s end. In the final showdown the Gem Jasper taunted her, “Emerald, we used to be so close. You almost kissed me once.” Once Terra was free, it was Sophie’s nod that sent Terra’s axe through the Collector’s neck. Sophie then threw the capsule that got everyone out. She was knocked unconscious with the diversion team outside the Silent Vaults, but stabilized. When the enemy ship exploded in the North City naval battle, she banished herself, Oolong and Terra out of the blast, and she begged Juliette to revive Barqs.
Piccolo. In the final fight in West City, Piccolo hammered Sophie until she died. Oolong revived her, and Piccolo kicked her in the head, screaming, “What’s so special about this fucking dwarf?” She survived but was the worst off of anyone afterward, seeing Piccolo’s face every time she closed her eyes. She told Terra she “didn’t want to come here.” Terra sent her to safety with her father, after first taking her to the FeyWild and giving her the Ring of Shooting Stars. Sophie promised to come back once “this is all said and done.”
Finding Terra. When Terra vanished, Sophie burst into Bulma’s workshop with two others: “Where the hell is my fiance.” In The FeyWild she cried at the sight of the ancient tree where she and Terra once sat, and when she learned how much time had passed for the locals, she said, “Terra’s going to be an old maid.” In the crystal temple she summoned a mammoth, glimpsed a dwarf-shaped form inside the crystal behemoth, and pleaded, “Terra, fight it. We’re your friends.” Terra broke free at the sound of her voice.
Marriage and the end of the war. Terra proposed on the spot and they were married, with Barqs officiating. Sophie fell at Muscle Tower and Juliette could not revive her, which drove Terra to kill Isidar. After Shenlong’s wish brought back everyone the Rose Ribbon Army had killed, Sophie talked Terra through what to do next: “The strength that you’ve given has shaped this world, and the feats that you’ve accomplished are second to no one.” They decided to turn the Collector’s mansion into a school.
Campaign 1.5
Twenty years after Campaign 1, Sophie and Terra were headmasters of the Cacklers Academy for Gifted Students (CAGS), and Sophie had taken the name Sophie Umber. When the Cacklers went after Cell, Terra was sent over by magic to join them (C1.5 Chapter 02).
At The Cell Games, Jimmy Firecracker introduced her as Sophie Umber, CAGS headmaster, “the wizard with the voice so magical, it is only matched by her immaculate spellcasting.” When the invisible Cell toyed with the party, Sophie called him a coward and dared him to show himself. “Sophie, Sophie, Sophie,” Cell said. “The funny thing is, I know you’re playing me. But you’re right.” He reappeared. Later, when Cell fired a kamehameha at Oolong expecting to find “a pile of fried chicken,” he found Sophie panting behind the arcane ward she had thrown up to save him. She was one of the four left standing (C1.5 Chapter 03).
Campaign 2
Sophie’s quarters at CAGS hold the Cacklers’ private collection. She helped Terra strap the would-be thief Escher into a chair in the war room (Session 63). During the Ozaroo rampage, a psychic alarm told her someone was in her quarters; she teleported back with Reese and Belle Pepper and found The Whisper working the collection’s security dials. She held Ellery in place with Hold Monster during the fighting (Session 65). Her protective ward kept the Whisper from devouring Reese’s brain, and she trapped him in a Wall of Force. With Belle Pepper she then killed him with lightning and magic (Session 66).
When Bulma’s distress signal went off, Sophie and Terra teleported from the Academy war room into the Cackler Barrel to fight the assassin Scorch (Session 67). Sophie was one of four left standing when Perfect Cell was declared defeated at The Cell Games (Session 70).
