Quick facts

Type: Tavern and restaurant brand · Location: North City (also a location in the Saline Coast) · Run by: Jebidiah · Controlling owner: Bulma Briefs · Status: Open (as of C2 Session 83)

The Cackler Barrel is a surprisingly influential establishment in North City, named after The Cacklers. It became their secret base in Campaign 1, and by Campaign 2 its name had spread far enough that the Saline Coast had a Cackler Barrel restaurant of its own.

In Campaign 1

When the Cacklers first came to North City, Greene made an ally of Jebidiah, who was working under a terrible tavern owner (C1 Chapter 06). By the time the party came back as fugitives, Jebidiah’s establishment had become the Cackler Barrel (C1 Chapter 08).

Jebidiah welcomed them, hugged Greene, and shocked the whole party by offering them residuals from the company. He led them to a hidden, refitted storeroom beneath the Barrel, a cavernous space with three bedrooms, and it became their war room. He offered full financial and logistical support but would not fight: “I prefer to not get caught up with the Collector personally myself because I don’t want to die.”

The Collector himself dropped by soon after to see Jebidiah. He discussed “Ginyu Force flavor” franchising and praised the name “Cackler Barrel,” while the Cacklers hid nearby planning to kill him.

After the Collector’s death, crowds of fans mobbed the Cacklers outside the Barrel until Jebidiah asked everyone not to “crowd the famous friends” (C1 Chapter 10). Jebidiah later sold the controlling stake in the Cackler Barrel to Bulma Briefs (C1 Chapter 13).

In Campaign 1.5

About twenty years after Campaign 1, the Cackler Barrel had become a worldwide phenomenon, and the Cacklers’ stock in it helped make them rich (C1.5 Chapter 01).

In Campaign 2

Kip took Ellery to a Cackler Barrel restaurant on the Saline Coast and showed her a picture on the wall of a small figure with spiky black hair and a monkey tail. It gave her her first lead on Kakarot (Goku) (Session 5).

In North City, Ellery tracked Prince Vegeta to the crowded Barrel. The confrontation turned ugly when The Whisper revealed himself as a mind flayer, and Bulma used a mechanical arm in the ceiling to teleport the combatants out of the city (Session 60). Ellery and Greene found Vegeta there again before his mission to Namek (Session 68).

Wilbur had a private dinner with Bulma in the Barrel’s VIP room. Outside the door, the assassin Scorch (Fable Reverie) killed her bodyguard, Will Jr., and the fight that followed drew in the Cacklers. Greene later revived Will Jr. (Session 66, 67).

Escher hid in the Barrel’s private suite during a strategy meeting held by the Velvet Truffle Company’s leadership (Session 70, 71).
