Campaign: Campaign 2 · Session: 67 of 83 · Arc: North City and the Cell Games · Where: North City, Cackler Barrel, Ye Olde Inn

At the Cackler Barrel, the assassin Scorch had just struck down Bulma’s bodyguard, Will Jr., with a flame blade. Standing over the body, Scorch turned to Bulma with a wild smile, ready to finish his contract. Wilbur called for help through a sending stone, alerting the rest of the party at Ye Olde Inn. Bulma used a foam capsule to pin the assassin in place, but Scorch answered with a fireball that left Bulma badly burned and scorched the VIP room.

Bulma triggered a distress signal, and Sophie and Terra teleported straight in from the Academy war room. Elyon used a magic staff to pass through the tavern’s walls, and the rest of The Cacklers joined the fight. The veteran heroes and the party surrounded the restrained Scorch, and Terra flew into a rage and battered him with her axe. Then Wilbur and the Cacklers noticed a striking resemblance between the assassin and Escher, and a tense standoff followed as they questioned who he really was.

To clear up the confusion, Belle Pepper cast a powerful remove curse on Escher, which restored the memories he had traded away in the in-between. Escher immediately recognized the assassin as his younger brother, Fable, and jumped between him and the others to protect him. Under questioning, Fable said he had been hired by a handler named Scuzz to kill Bulma, claiming her business dealings and contracts with the Velvet Truffle Company were a blight on the world. Amid the family drama, the Cacklers opened the Whisper’s recovered astral lockbox and found a huge hoard, including six of the seven Star Orbs, a ring of mind shielding, and a map tracking the disappearance of stars across the sky.

Greene then used divine magic to resurrect Will Jr., who woke in a panic before Wilbur and Reese calmed him. The veteran heroes left to continue preparing for the tournament, and the party took custody of a defiant Fable, debating how to handle his crimes with The Cell Games only thirty-six hours away. As the city settled into an uneasy quiet, a radio broadcast by Marrow Vane aired across North City, harshly criticizing the Cacklers for the destruction caused by the Ozaroo rampage and questioning their accountability to citizens. Wilbur stayed behind to comfort a shaken Bulma while the rest of the party regrouped at the inn to finalize plans for the planet’s survival.
