Quick facts
Campaign: Campaign 2 · Session: 63 of 83 · Arc: North City and the Cell Games · Where: North City; CAGS
Wilbur, Kip, Nelda, and Ellery explored the streets of North City and came across the North City Herald. Nelda read an editorial by a reporter named Marrow Vane criticizing the legendary Cacklers, singling out Terra Misu for her history of battlefield violence and suggesting the heroes used children as shields. As they debated visiting a bookstore, Nelda was hit by a psychic sending from The Whisper. The mind flayer said he was deeply disappointed that she had gone back on their agreement and withdrew his magical aid. At once, the hundreds of agonized moans from the souls trapped in her glaive flooded back into her mind.
While Nelda struggled with the return of her curse, the party realized Escher had vanished. Unknown to them, he had been caught trying to steal from the Cacklers’ private collection. Terra confronted the intruder with immediate violence, punching him in the gut and then the face and knocking the wind out of him. He was grappled, restrained, and hauled into the Cacklers’ war room to be interrogated by the very heroes he had once admired.
In the war room, Terra and Sophie strapped Escher into a chair. Terra leaned in, called him stupid for breaking in, and threatened to have him beaten to the brink of death and magically revived over and over until he talked. Escher tried to keep up the sarcasm, but eventually admitted he was acting for a being from another planet who had promised to leave Arlia if he got a particular “gleaming orb” from the collection.
Ruby then cast a zone of truth, and Escher could not resist it. Just as the spell settled over the room, the doors burst open and Bulma Briefs walked in with her bodyguard and a young half-elf. She slammed her hands on the table, demanded to know who had sent him, and began pressing for every detail. Trapped by the spell, Escher was forced to explain the “mind thing” in the orb to the suspicious and powerful room.
