Buttermilk is a coastal town, part of which sank into the sea in a past conflict. Off its coast lies Buttermilk Under the Sea, home to a community of water genasi.
History
Juliette, Oolong, and Terra Misu Umber came to Buttermilk while sheltering from bad weather. In a nearly deserted tavern they met Cascade, who told them his people were under attack by an invading force. He gave the trio water breathing and took them down.
The invaders were the Rose Ribbon Army, hunting the Star Orb kept near the original temple of old Buttermilk. While Cascade went to help evacuate the residential districts, the trio crossed the seaweed farms, watched a giant battleship sink into the depths, and took a mermaid’s shortcut through the temple. In the cavern beyond, Oolong snatched the orb from Grand Admiral Blue’s hand. The trio and the genasi then killed a sea creature and an aboleth, at the cost of all their genasi allies, and later killed Blue in the tunnels (C1 Chapter 05).
