The War in the Heavens is a growing fracture among Arlia’s gods. What mortals know of it comes from visions granted to Kip and to Ruby.

What is known

Kip’s visions

Early in the campaign, on the road south of the Saline Coast, Kip stopped to pray at a small shrine and received a cryptic vision. It warned him that “the stars aren’t right,” and told him to follow his heart and his compassion as his true guide, not the flawed laws of men.

Much later, while Kip lay without pulse or breath in the hands of the Brandoboris cult, he met the goddess Cyrollellee in a peaceful, tilled field. She told him of a growing fracture and war among the heavens. She returned his lost memories of Alana and urged him to act as a follower who stands between what is written and what is right.

A broken divine agreement

In the cult’s temple, Brandoboris, the halfling god of trickery and mayhem, briefly appeared during a blip in time, laughed at his failing cultists, and vanished. Later, when Sawyer Elmheart pleaded for his life, Brandoboris appeared to mock him, and Cyrollellee chased him away for violating a divine agreement. Sawyer’s body collapsed lifeless to the floor.

The Trickster’s confession

In North City, Ruby of the Cacklers had a vision in which The Trickster admitted he had triggered a civil war among the deities. He had done it by intercepting divine invitations and rerouting mortal prayers.

The Trickster is not new to the Cacklers. During Campaign 1, Juliette dreamed of the Trickster while resting in the caves near Buttermilk Under the Sea (C1 Chapter 05).

Mortal representatives

At the end of The Cell Games, two of the Cacklers were summoned by their gods to serve as representatives in the war. Ruby went with the Trickster as the price of a wish to heal her friends, and Belle Pepper was summoned by her own god (C1.5 Chapter 03).

Open questions

  • What the divine invitations were, and whose prayers were rerouted.
  • What the agreement was that Brandoboris broke.
  • Whether the war has anything to do with The Vanishing Stars. Kip’s shrine vision and Mayor Windrider’s warnings both used the same words, “the stars aren’t right,” but no one has confirmed a link.
