Quick facts
Race: Halfling · Home: Green Hollow · Family: Daughter of Sawyer Elmheart · Relationship: Kip’s ex-fiancée and, for a time, his wife by contract · Status: Alive (as of C2 Session 83)
Alana Elmheart is a halfling from Green Hollow and Kip’s former fiancée. Her father used her to trap Kip in a magical marriage contract, and she later helped Kip break it.
History
Alana came to the Saline Coast after hearing of Kip’s and Elby’s troubles. At the closing ceremonies she and Kip had a tense, emotional confrontation that seemed to end their engagement (Session 27). The next day she brought him paperwork that would “release Elby Thistletop and his turnip wagon,” and Kip signed it without reading it (Session 28). Kip then lost his memories of her in The In-Between, so he was surprised later to hear he was engaged at all.
The paperwork turned out to be a magically binding marriage contract giving Alana sole control over Kip’s “financial, domestic, magical, and romantic decisions” and cutting his family out of their farm (Session 44). When the FAM reached Green Hollow, Alana and a group of halflings watched them from the shadows. She called Nelda a “prostitute,” asserted her control over Kip’s estate, and when Kip tried to prove in a Zone of Truth that he had been tricked, she magically removed his mouth mid-speech (Sessions 50–51).
After the tavern fight the party found Alana unconscious. When she woke, she told them her father, Sawyer Elmheart, had abandoned Cyrollellee for Brandoboris and was growing Ghostpetal Turnipbloom on a sequestered parcel of the family farm to sell to a buyer in Brinewick Hollow. She said she had been as much a pawn in her father’s schemes as Kip (Session 52). Her information led the party to the Temple of Cyrollellee.
Alana traveled with the party back to the Saline Coast. She, Kip and Wilbur went to the enchantress Veshka Knoteater to annul the marriage. Veshka refused and attacked, and when Kip killed her the marriage bond dissolved (Sessions 57–58).
