Quick facts
Campaign: Campaign 2 · Session: 27 of 83 · Arc: Curses, Sewers, and the Closing Ceremonies · Where: Saline Coast, Saline Splendor Festival
On the day of the closing festival, Wilbur took charge of organizing the night’s watches and gave Kip a hand-carved wooden ring with a turnip design. Nelda was unexpectedly recruited to play her bagpipes at the festival after most of the other musicians dropped out. The organizer described the festival’s special “daytime fireworks,” which use magic to create “negative color explosions,” a detail that unnerved Kip.
Mayor Windrider took the stage and delivered a powerful speech. She publicly cleared the group, issued full pardons, and called for the release of Nelda’s parents and Elby Thistletop. She ordered the arrest of the real conspirators: Tobias Blackwood, Orin Coppercoin, and Lyla Brightspark. She ended by withdrawing from the mayoral race and calling for a special election, stunning the crowd. In the middle of all this, Kip had a tense, emotional confrontation with his fiancée, Alana, who had come to the city after hearing about his and Elby’s troubles. The conversation ended with their relationship seemingly over.
Then came the daylight fireworks. The magical explosions created a false eclipse in the sky, and under that darkness Ellery transformed into a giant, furious ape-like beast, a massive creature of pure rage. The festival fell into chaos as the group fought their own friend. Escher thought fast and sliced off Ellery’s tail, and she reverted to her normal form and collapsed unconscious.
