History

In the Bloodhowler’s hands

Eldon Reed fought with it as the Bloodhowler and used it to crush Squeebles into the ground (Session 17).

Nelda’s curse (Sessions 21–25)

Nelda took the glaive after Reed’s death. During the escape from her family home in Session 21, she felt a strange new power surge through it, leaving a green hue and silencing the moaning voices that had been plaguing her mind.

In Session 22, she told the group she believed the glaive was cursed. It was behind her erratic behavior and the return of Squeebles, whose spirit seemed to have possessed Kip’s voodoo doll, and she couldn’t bring herself to give it up. In Session 23, it was making her hear voices and feel crazy. When Escher tried to take it, she held both him and Ellery in place with magic and took it back, then apologized, overwhelmed with relief. The Whisper offered to sever her bond with it someday (Session 25).

The Bloodhowler’s end

In The In-Between (Session 32), Nelda cut off the Bloodhowler’s head with his own glaive. She kept using it afterward, including the blow that split the head of a giant ruin spider in the Temple of Cyrollellee (Session 52).

The souls (Sessions 63–71)

When the Whisper withdrew his help in Session 63, the moans of hundreds of souls trapped in the glaive came flooding back into Nelda’s mind. In Session 68, Ruby purged the cursed souls from it, and revealed that the soul of Nelda’s father, Thalorian Valedriss, had been shielding her from the worst of the weapon’s agony.

In Session 71, Nelda finally sold it. An appraiser found that she was no longer attuned to it, but the curse still clung to the weapon. A visiting curse expert valued it at about 4,000 gold, since some buyers pay well for a blade that siphons the souls of the dead. The shopkeeper opened at 1,500, but Nelda talked him up to 2,300 gold plus a ring of swimming.
