Role: Merchant, owner of the Sapphire Tide · Status: Unknown (last seen C2 Session 35)

Kellem Stormforge is the merchant who hired The FAM to recover a family heirloom from the wreck of his ship, the Sapphire Tide. He lost the heirloom to a dragon and then lost another ship to the party.

History

In Session 28, Arghen brought the party Stormforge’s job posting. Stormforge explained that a gold dragon had attacked the Sapphire Tide, torn it apart, and seemed to be searching for something in the wreckage (Session 29). Nelda doubted that dragons behaved like that. After some haggling, Escher got him to pay a 500-gold advance.

The heirloom was a black chest that glowed with benevolent energy, protected by steel and magic (Session 33). The party found it, but Khalor the Dreamreaper took it from them. Stormforge sailed them after the dragon, though worries that his insurance didn’t kick in until the next day kept him from docking properly at the VTC island, and the party had to row the rest of the way. When Ellery confronted him, he accused her of breaking their contract by giving his name to the company (Session 34).

The party then “heisted” his ship. His crew, led by Captain Teft, disliked him and agreed to work for the party if they could legally remove him. Nelda got him to drink a potion of clouded judgment, a “sick” Stormforge “signed the ship over” on documents Wilbur had forged, and he was escorted off to “the hospital” (Session 35). The ship became The Odd At Sea.
