Right after the aboleth attack, Ellery was dragged underwater. She fought back, kicking the creature in the eye so that it burst into a cloud of ink. Back on the ship, she found her skin covered in a painful, slimy coating that resisted washing and healing. After several failed attempts to get it off, including dunking her in the ocean and putting her in a barrel of water, Kip finally succeeded with remove curse and her skin returned to normal. Wilbur collected a vial of the “extremely gross” leftover water (Ellery bathwater) for later study.
The group went back to their routines. Nelda kept struggling to train David, the snarl fin kitten, who ignored her commands until Kip stepped in. That night Ellery found Sigzil stargazing. He pointed out that stars were mysteriously disappearing from the constellations. Ellery connected this to what she had been told about a planet-destroying tyrant named Frieza. David, meanwhile, bonded with everyone but Nelda, even doing a backflip for Escher while running away from her.
The ship reached Bellyport, a port town where nearly every building is a restaurant. At a shop selling diamonds, Escher insulted the shopkeeper’s wares and got them all kicked out. He then turned invisible and stole 300 gold worth of diamonds, while Wilbur bought some legitimately. Later, at a tavern, Wilbur got extremely drunk and began working through the trauma of his recent death, talking to a coat rack he thought was a person and trying to call his ex. Ellery comforted him, holding him like a baby while he dealt with his feelings. The party then returned to the ship and sailed two days to their next stop, Hamhock Harbor.
