Quick facts
Campaign: Campaign 2 · Session: 37 of 83 · Arc: Khalor and the Company at Sea · Where: Aboard the C.P.H., at sea
The group settled into life aboard their ship, the C.P.H. (originally the Cresting Pearl Horizon, now the Convenient Plot Hook). Ellery asked Nelda to pierce her nose, explaining that she wanted to be taken seriously and not seen as a child. She told Nelda that she had recently learned she was lied to about her past. She had been told a meteor destroyed her home planet when she was five, but it had actually been destroyed by an evil person. She was angry about the deception, and Nelda was supportive. Later, Wilbur asked Nelda to play a “mini concert” on her bagpipes for the crew. As she played, he set off fireworks and Kip threw confetti. The spectacle moved Nelda to tears and won the crew’s admiration.
Escher asked the captain whether there was a tattoo artist aboard, toying with the idea of getting a random design from a machine. He sparred with Ellery using invisibility, much to her frustration. Later he planned to meet a crew member to use some “firemoss,” but Kip and Nelda stepped in, worried about the suspicious meeting. Escher’s reputation for theft also came up, with the others noting he “always has that look in his eye.” Nelda struggled to train her snarl fin kitten, but Kip, drawing on his past as a sheep herder, got the animal to obey commands.
The peaceful voyage ended when The Lopen raised the alarm. A large cloud of mucus was floating alongside the ship, and an arched tentacle rose out of it. The creature, an aboleth, attacked and charmed Escher, turning him into the monster’s ally. It then grabbed another member of the party, and before the rest could fully react, it swam away with its two new captives under its control.
