Quick facts

Campaign: Campaign 2 · Session: 39 of 83 · Arc: Khalor and the Company at Sea · Where: Hamhock Harbor

Arghen woke after sleeping for nearly two weeks, tended by a concerned Kip. Meanwhile the group realized Escher was missing. Wearing a Sherlock Holmes outfit, Kip led the investigation. They learned that a man had recently bought a book titled Furnace of the Mind from a local shopkeeper named Nymphodora Clay. Kip’s “impressive detective work,” including dusting for fingerprints (which Wilbur actually did), revealed that the buyer wore a ring with the Velvet Truffle Company logo. While they pieced together the clues, Arghen, driven by his single goal, spotted a dragon far in the distance and set off after it, and the others followed.

Escher, meanwhile, was on his own covert job. The note slipped into his pocket at the Gilded Minnow had identified his target, a high-ranking member of the Velvet Truffle Company. Escher killed him with a poison-tipped arrow. After confirming the kill, he looted the body, taking a ring that served as a company seal and two documents, and slipped back to the party. When he rejoined the others, he shared his belief that the dragon, Khalor, was working for the Velvet Truffle Company and might have killed Arghen’s friend on their orders. Arghen’s quest for revenge was more tangled than any of them had imagined.

Escher’s actions had put them in danger, and he urged them to sneak away or hide, admitting the authorities might be looking for him. In a pub, his assassination was nearly revealed out loud. A patron overheard and left in a hurry, and the group made a quick exit. From the stolen documents they learned they needed to go to a place called Buttermere. They set sail again for the Republic of Fat to continue investigating the Velvet Truffle Company and hunting the dragon.
