Quick facts
Campaign: Campaign 2 · Session: 13 of 83 · Arc: The Festival Conspiracy · Where: Mercenary’s Rest, Saline Coast
City guards were searching the taverns for the escaped prisoners and their accomplices, so the group at the Mercenary’s Rest had to hide. Ellery jumped out a window into a wagon, Escher hid Nelda in a closet, and Kip went under the bed. Wilbur disguised himself as an old halfling woman and fooled the guard who searched their room. Once the danger passed, Bran told them the healer they needed, Sylas Riverstride, lived south of the city.
As they prepared to leave the Saline Coast, the newspaper ran a headline about the breakout naming Tobias Bigsby and “Dave the Destroyer” among the fugitives. They set out with the elderly donkey Steve, whom Wilbur had bought for a steep twenty gold. At Wilbur’s market stall they found a note pinned to the curtain with a knife, echoing the Bloodhowler’s earlier threat against Wilbur’s family. Afraid he was putting his friends in danger, Wilbur thought about leaving, but the group decided to stick together.
To get past the city gates they used disguises. Escher changed his appearance, Nelda disguised herself as someone named “Sophie Ghiradelli,” and Ellery posed as an old woman carrying Kip as a large, disfigured baby wrapped in a blanket. A guard nearly foiled them by recognizing Steve, but they talked their way out by claiming to be a family taking the sick animal to a friend’s farm. They traveled into the stormy night, finding an odd comfort in their freedom.
