The bullette focused on Nelda, biting her until she fell unconscious, and then began slithering back into its burrow, dragging her into the earth. Desperate to save her, Escher grabbed a vial of “Essence of Ether” and leapt into the hole after it. He shoved the sedative up the creature’s nostril, and the massive beast ground to a halt and fell into a deep sleep, letting the party pull Nelda out from between its teeth.
After recovering, the party traveled to Wild Reach Village and took rooms at the Stag and Brier Tavern. While the others rested, Escher used a magical disguise to slip out and meet a contact. He was given a dossier on a new target: a retired judge named Marius Vellum. The contact told him that if he did this job “the right way,” he would get a shot at a high-priority target known as the “white whale.”
The next day the party headed for Green Hollow, Kip’s hometown. In a pine forest, a stampede of metallic, iron-scaled bulls nearly ran them down, and they hid in the brush to avoid it. Soon after, Ellery sensed a familiar, powerful energy nearby. Investigating a ruin on a hilltop, she found her friend Kale, a fellow Saiyan, wandering aimlessly and badly exhausted.
Things turned dire when Kale, overwhelmed by inner turmoil and the mention of their mutual acquaintance Caulifla, lost control of her power. Her eyes turned white, her muscles bulged, and her hair shifted to a dark green as she went through a terrifying transformation. Heat poured off her in waves, the world around them seemed to lose its color, and she let out a piercing scream. The party had to fight their transformed, berserk ally.
