Lazra Vant was the Velvet Truffle Company’s archmage on the Saline Coast, the handler behind Thalorian Valedriss’s run for mayor. Lazra killed Thalorian and died in the same fight.
History
In Session 55, Nelda intercepted a letter in Elvish from Lazra to Judge Marius Vellum about the ghost petal trade, which confirmed the judge’s high-level ties to the VTC.
In Session 57, the party set out to help Catman’s campaign by exposing the connection between Thalorian and the VTC’s archmage.
The Valedriss estate (Session 58)
Nelda and Escher snuck into the upper floors of the Valedriss mansion and overheard Lazra negotiating with Thalorian. The Catman, on the roof, heard the same conversation. Lazra explained that policies Thalorian had been promised were off the table would be put in place quietly, so that by the time the public noticed, reversing them would be impractical. When Thalorian protested that they would gut half the dock workers and cause unrest, Lazra told him to focus on winning first. The VTC’s projections had him well ahead, and the company saw no need to interfere with Puss Wayne, whom it considered unelectable to the people who mattered and a joke to everyone else.
Thalorian demanded a guarantee that his daughter would live. Lazra would only guarantee she wouldn’t be killed, and gave him two days to win the election and deliver the Fellowship.
When Nelda accidentally alerted the guards, the meeting turned into a fight. Lazra unleashed concentrated necrotic energy. Thalorian grabbed a dagger off the wall, cried “Not my daughter. You promised,” and went at Lazra, and was struck down by an arcane burst. Nelda killed Lazra, cutting down the VTC guards with the same thunderous blast.
The VTC arrested Catman at the scene and pinned both deaths on him.
