Nelda opened the fight by freezing the undead Tobias Blackwood in place with a hold person spell. A Velvet Truffle Company necromancer, who already had a spectral hand waiting, used it to pull the lever at the door, slamming and locking it and trapping Escher and Ellery in the crypt away from the rest of the party. The necromancer then raised the dead, and five coffins burst open as five zombies joined the fight.
The battlefield turned chaotic. A noise from above announced Catman, who crashed through the ceiling in a shower of rock and rubble, landing in a black cowl and dark suit. While Escher and Ellery fought Tobias and the zombies inside, Nelda found the door held by a deadbolt. Wilbur shot the door where he guessed the lock was and hit it, and Nelda charged forward and burst through, finding more zombies and other foes. When her hold on Tobias broke, she turned the spell on the necromancer instead and briefly held her, but the necromancer soon shook it off.
Tobias focused on Escher. Two of his swings missed, but the third landed hard on Escher’s collarbone and dropped him at Kip’s feet. Nelda then let loose a thunderwave that accidentally caught Escher too and knocked him out again. Wilbur put two shots into Tobias’s back as he stumbled forward, and the undead man crashed to the ground in a “gooey mess.” The necromancer decided to “dip out,” teleporting away alone after failing to bring the unconscious Escher with her. As she vanished, Escher gasped back to consciousness. Catman saw a piece of parchment float to the ground where she had been and grabbed it. Kip noted that the wanted poster for the Catman was “very generous” compared to how he actually looked.
