Quick facts
Campaign: Campaign 2 · Session: 43 of 83 · Arc: Khalor and the Company at Sea · Where: The cliffs outside Buttermere; at sea; Saline Coast
The gold dragon confronted the party on the cliffs outside Buttermere. A Velvet Truffle Company member with the dragon reported good news about a successful experiment with seven eggs, six of which showed signs of life and were expected to hatch soon. As the official tried to leave through a magical doorknob, Arghen stepped forward and accused the dragon of killing the Prince of Bureetoe of the Dwarven Isles, declaring that he would die for the crime. The dragon dropped his human disguise, returned to his massive true form, and taunted Arghen, asking how far he was willing to chase him for revenge. Arghen answered, “To the ends of Arlia.”
The dragon challenged Arghen to follow him, but first he attacked, unleashing fire on Ellery and Kip that badly burned them both. As he flew off, the sound of approaching Velvet Truffle Company guards sent the wounded party diving into the bushes. The guards found them, and one poked a stick into the bush, pressing it against Ellery’s cheek and ordering them out. The group claimed they had only been hiding from the dragon, but when a guard pulled out a stone to report in, Escher shot him through the temple with an arrow.
The group fled through the streets of Buttermere back to their ship. Now fugitives from the Velvet Truffle Company, they decided their next stop had to be the Saline Coast, and that they needed to rebrand to avoid suspicion. On the way, Ellery lost an arm-wrestling match to Nelda but sensed the dragon’s energy to the south. In a stroke of luck, a seagull landed near Nelda with a pouch of rubies worth 200 gold tied around its neck. As they pulled into the Saline Coast, Captain Teft asked what they had decided to rename the ship.
