Quick facts
Campaign: Campaign 2 · Session: 4 of 83 · Arc: The Festival Conspiracy · Where: Saline Coast, Rusty Anchor
In the aftermath of the fire, the group had defeated two half-orcs, Yorn and Yagra. They questioned Yorn about why they were destroying Isabella Thorne’s home and where to find “E.R.” When the interrogation was done, Wilbur asked Yorn, “Gold or steel?” Yorn chose steel. Wilbur tried for a quick, merciful killing blow, missed badly, and Yorn died a long and painful death until Ellery put him out of his misery.
City guards Murtog and Mullroy, drawn by the fire, arrived right after. The group talked their way out of trouble by claiming to work with the legendary “Catman.”
At the town hall, instead of their scheduled meeting, they were called in for questioning by Captain Eric Stormshield, who was investigating the attempt on Cedric Lightharbor. Wilbur panicked and spilled everything: the death of Isabella Thorne, and his suspicion of Tobias Bigsby, whose name (“Tobias B.”) appeared in his sales ledger for the smoke bomb. Despite the chaotic and somewhat incriminating testimony, Stormshield seemed to believe them and agreed to look into Bigsby. He warned them to stay out of police business and leave it to the “professionals.”
The group ignored him and went to the Rusty Anchor, the tavern where Yorn and his men were supposed to be paid. The surly bartender was hostile, but they found a job board with a posting about bandits attacking caravans outside the city. That side quest led to a brutal and surprisingly hard fight that left Ellery and Kip unconscious and the party badly in need of healing.
