Quick facts
Type: Tracking device · Owner: Velvet Truffle Company · Planted on: Nelda by Mia Vex · Status: Thrown overboard (C2 Session 80)
Asset Songbird is the Velvet Truffle Company’s name for a tracking device that Mia Vex planted on Nelda for her father, Cadbury Vex.
History
In Session 70, Mia met Nelda in North City, chatting as if they were just catching up while quietly warning her they were being watched. She explained that her father had ordered her to plant a tracker on Nelda with a goodbye hug, and that she was only playing along. Cadbury doesn’t know she told Nelda.
In Session 71, Escher overheard Cadbury’s briefing. The VTC’s monitoring desk logged the device as Asset Songbird, it was live and reporting cleanly, and the company expected it to lead them straight to wherever the Fellowship had hidden their families. Seraphina Rusk knew about it too. Cadbury preferred to wait for Songbird to catch the whole party in one net rather than arrest Escher alone.
In Session 72, the party found the tracker had moved from where Mia put it. Wilbur spotted it peeking out of Nelda’s curls and pulled it free as it wriggled. With his tinker’s tools he took it apart and learned that it was tracked only by a simple location ping. It could record and listen, but it couldn’t broadcast, so its recordings could only be retrieved by recovering the device. He learned enough to build his own versions. He sealed it in a jar beside Nelda’s bed, and the party slipped away.
In Session 80, aboard their new airship, the party threw it overboard somewhere over the Ramen Empire.
